Lebel’s Lace

I recently
became fascinated
with a specific type of
holy card, the “paper lace”
style called dévotes dentelles,
and created a blog post to
show some of them

Since then,
I have been looking for
more examples and trying
to learn more about them
.
I have all three of the Holy Card
books published by Abrams, and
found only three small examples;
“Visions of Mary” pp.18, 20 & 21

(two shown below)

one full page
in “Holy Cards” p.77,
but the book only refers
to the artwork on the card.
There is no information
about who printed
them, or how
:

Wanting
to learn more,
I went to the
Internet

but
I only found
one good source
hosting these cards;
the blogs created by
Fr. François Fénelon,
who is no longer
active
.

The
natural
librarian in me
wants to preserve
some of the best
examples I can
find
,

shown below
with no commentary,
except for the translation
of the text on the card,
where possible
.

All of these cards
were printed by
Bouasse Lebel

So,
this is
“Lebel’s Lace”

Eulalie Lebel

is the only daughter of the
printer Jacques-Auguste Lebel. 
In 1827 she married the printing
foreman Francois-Marie Bouasse. 
When he left her and their two
children, she founded a print
shop for religious images 
under the name

“Madame Bouasse,
nee Lebel”
.
